Punta Tombo

In this area you will find the largest continental penguin rookery in South America. It is located 180km south of Puerto Madryn in a protected area of more than 200 hectares on soft pebbly beaches. On the rocky peninsula and the neighbouring areas, there are over 200.000 reproductive couples of Magellanic penguins that every September condition their nests, mate and hatch their chicks to, later in the season, migrate to the northern South American shores.

On the other hand, Punta Tombo has been chosen by other sea-birds to nest . Kelp-gulls, skuas, king cormorants, rock cormorants, steamer ducks, snowy sheathbills, a number of terns and the giant petrel are some of the birds that can be watched here.

This majestic place is being taken care of by specialized fauna keepers and the visitors can stop at the cafeteria and use the sanitary facilities.
